50 years of IIRSM

IIRSM is commemorating 50 years since our establishment in 1975. Over the last 50 years we have helped individuals and organisations around the world to feel safe, supported and empowered to identify and manage risks, protecting their environments and lives.

Today, IIRSM membership continues to grow, we now have more than 8,000 Members and 60 valuable Partners in over 100 countries.

A message from our CEO, Phillip Pearson:

IIRSM is officially 50! Thank you to everyone who attended our Forum50 event, we hope you found value in reflecting on some of the key topics for our community.

Sessions from the day included:

  • Privilege in Safety and Risk - Protecting our future people and organisations through understanding the role of intersectionality

  • Embracing Uncertainty - Is sustainability the same as resilience?

  • Celebrating our Community - IIRSM extends our appreciation of key contributors who have gone above and beyond for our cause

We have lots of exciting initiatives planned to mark our celebrations in the year leading to, and the year of, our 50th anniversary in May 2025. Our line up so far includes:

  • A special edition of The Sentinel magazine in June 2025 that looks at IIRSM's history, the history of the profession and the future. We will be profiling key members of our communities who have played a vital role in who IIRSM is today and who we hope to be in 50 years' time.

  • Dedicated bi-monthly newsletter series with exclusively curated content.

  • Exclusive member-only discounts and giveaways. From 01 April to 31 May 2025, Affiliates, Associates and Members can upgrade their membership for free.

    We offer a pathway to membership for everyone, and you may be eligible for an upgrade based on your qualifications and experience.
