Overview:

In this session, Angus Osborne-White, Head of Technical Development at Crawford Forensic Accounting Services, will explore business interruption insurance: what it is, how it works, and how it should be factored into business continuity planning.

Drawing on over a decade of experience in the insurance industry Angus will provide practical insights into the assessment and mitigation of business interruption.

This presentation will focus on:

  • Pre-loss: The importance of understanding what business interruption provides cover for and how it transfers business risk.
  • Post-loss: What will happen in the event of an insured loss, including examples of how business interruption to help in a greater way than “just” indemnifying for losses.
  • How clear communication of policy coverage can reduce uncertainty and support proactive loss mitigation.
  • The value of communicating the operational realities of affected businesses to ensure fair and efficient indemnity outcomes.

This session is designed to equip risk managers with a clearer understanding of how forensic accounting can support both the technical and human aspects of claims handling—ultimately helping to protect business continuity as part of a wider risk management strategy.

Speaker

Angus Osborne-White, Head of Technical Development, Crawford Forensic Services

Angus Osborne-White is currently the Head of Technical Development at Crawford Forensic Accounting Services.

He began his career training as an accountant whilst serving as a commissioned officer in the British Army.

With over a decade of experience in the insurance industry, Angus now holds a senior position within a specialist team focused on business interruption, employee fidelity, and stock claims.

Working primarily on behalf of insurers, he ensures that his team collaborates effectively with policyholders to agree on loss calculations and indemnity payments.

This approach involves understanding businesses affected by insured losses in order that they not only accurately quantify losses but also help to minimise them; clearly explaining policy coverage and supporting policyholders in implementing mitigation strategies that benefit both them and insurers.

Initially necessitated by COVID-19 claim volumes, during recent years Angus has also led the development of systems designed to enhance the speed and accuracy of business interruption claims settlements, reflecting his ongoing commitment to innovation and service excellence in this field.
