**Hugh Maxwell – Internationally Recognized Risk and Safety Leader, Maxwell Safety Limited **

Hugh Maxwell is an internationally experienced Risk and Safety professional with over 30 years of senior management expertise in driving cultural change and developing talent in high-risk work environments. His diverse career spans industries such as construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, petrochemicals, steel, foundries, and mining. Maxwell has worked in over 50 countries across six continents, shaping global attitudes toward risk management through innovative approaches and people development.

Maxwell's previous roles include Head of Health and Safety for Spirax Sarco Steam Specialty Division, Business Director (EMEA) for Chubb Risk Advisors, and Global Environmental Leader for ESAB. As a former HSE Director at Vesuvius PLC, he successfully led numerous risk reduction initiatives, including the award-winning Safety Breakthrough program, which earned him the 2018 IIRSM Excellence Award for Best International Risk Initiative.

Maxwell is a Fellow of IIRSM, IOSH, the Chartered Management Institute, and the Institute of Leadership. He is also an NEBOSH Ambassador and an Avetta Fellow. Recognized as a top Health and Safety Influencer by HSE People in 2021 and 2022, SHP Magazine named him among the top influencers in 2023. In September 2023, he was the only European named one of the Top Safety Influencers in Asia and Africa by WSH Asia.

Maxwell’s passion for mentorship is well-known within the safety community. He was IIRSM's Mentor of the Year in 2019 and again in 2022. As an IIRSM Fellow since 2007, he chairs the Fellowship recommendation panel and is committed to developing future leaders through mentoring programs. His recent work includes mentoring professionals in South Africa and the Middle East, where he has led culture change programs, recently and most notably in mining and refining industries.

He holds a degree in Chemistry, a master’s degree in Total Quality Management, and numerous qualifications in health, safety, environmental management, leadership, and mentoring. A qualified Lumina Spark practitioner, Maxwell uses modern psychometrics to enhance team dynamics and develop future business leaders.
