Sadie Restorick, Co-Founder of Wellity Global, explains why she opted for IIRSM course approval
Why did you seek course approval with IIRSM?
We sought approval with IIRSM because of its strong reputation for promoting high standards in risk, safety and wellbeing across diverse sectors. We wanted to ensure The Suicide Prevention Certified Ambassador Programme met an externally recognised benchmark, giving organisations and individuals added confidence in the quality, relevance and integrity of the training. Gaining IIRSM approval helps reinforce the importance of mental health and suicide prevention as essential elements of a safe and supportive workplace.
How did you find the course approval process?
The IIRSM course approval process was thorough yet very supportive. The guidance provided throughout was clear, constructive and professional. It gave us the opportunity to reflect on and refine elements of the programme to ensure it aligned with best practice and delivered maximum impact to participants. We found the IIRSM team collaborative and easy to engage with, making the experience a very positive one.
What is the impact of having your programmes approved by IIRSM?
Having IIRSM approval significantly strengthens the credibility of our programme and reassures participants that it meets high professional standards. It opens doors to wider networks of health, safety and risk professionals who are often the first line of support when colleagues are struggling. Ultimately, the approval helps us reach more people with a message of hope, reassurance and action – creating safer, more compassionate workplaces.
How can your programme support those who are struggling in the workplace?
The Suicide Prevention Certified Ambassador Programme trains individuals to become certified Suicide Prevention Ambassadors, a vital source of support for those in crisis or who may be concerned about someone else. Through practical tools, real-world scenarios, and sensitive guidance, participants learn how to offer reassurance, listen without judgement, and signpost to appropriate help. It supports a workplace culture where people feel seen, heard and never alone.
What skills do you hope participants in the programme will take with them?
We want participants to leave the one-day course with the skills and confidence to have potentially life-saving conversations. That includes recognising warning signs, using active and compassionate listening, and knowing how and when to signpost someone to further support. Above all, they’ll carry with them a deeper understanding of how to offer hope and be a steady presence for others in distress. Certification lasts for three years, ensuring their knowledge remains current and impactful.
