Aghalar Gasimov, Lead Project and Interface Engineer for QatarEnergy LNG's Compression 2 EPC project under the North Field Production Sustainability Programme, tells us about his experience of the NEBOSH IIRSM Certificate in Managing Risk.
What does your role involve?
My role involves overseeing the technical, engineering and construction management for offshore compression platform complexes and related infrastructure. I am also responsible for managing interface and risk management systems, ensuring effective coordination between contractors, stakeholders and other teams within the programme.
Why did you sign up for the course?
Given my career's heavy focus on managing risks in high-stakes energy projects, I saw this course as an opportunity to formalise my knowledge and enhance my understanding of risk management principles. It aligned perfectly with my professional goals of delivering projects more safely and efficiently.
What parts of the content did you enjoy most?
The case studies and scenarios were highly relatable to real-world challenges in the energy sector. They provided actionable insights, which I found incredibly valuable.
Did you learn anything that you will put into practice?
Absolutely! The structured methods for identifying, assessing and mitigating risks have already improved my approach to managing complex project risks. I now feel more confident in ensuring that risk registers are comprehensive and in driving team collaboration on risk contingencies. Moving forward, I aim to leverage this certification to contribute to more sustainable and resilient energy projects. I am also considering further certifications and training to continue broadening my expertise in project management and risk analysis.
