You have at least a level 4 or 5 risk related qualification and/or three years’ relevant experience typically managing operational change and procedures, contributing to policy development and responsible for managing risks within an area of responsibility or organisation-wide objectives and projects.

You can apply to be a Member based on a. your qualifications, b. your qualifications and experience, or c. your skills, competence and experience.

Qualification Route

To apply via the qualification route, you will need to provide evidence of completing a level 5 academic or professional risk-related qualification, recognised on the England & Wales Regulated Qualifications Framework or equivalent. Please note, we recognise both regulated and non-regulated qualifications.

Qualification and Experience Route

To apply via this route, you need to have completed a level 4 academic or professional risk-related qualification and have a minimum of three years' experience working in a risk discipline, such as business continuity, compliance, crisis management, emergency planning, environmental management, insurance, occupational health and safety, quality management, project management, resilience, risk management, security or sustainability.

You will need to provide the following:

  • A certificate or letter from the awarding organisation confirming you have successfully passed your level 4 qualification.

  • A statement of professional competence to be completed on the form provided. Your statement needs to show how you meet a minimum of three technical competences and four leadership behaviours at managerial level, as set out in IIRSM's Risk Management and Leadership Competency Framework.

  • A copy of your CV, no more than two sides of A4, which should include your career/personal profile, work history, education and skills/achievements.

  • A reference on the form provided from either your manager or another suitably qualified person who can support your application.

Experience Route

To apply via this route, you have no formal risk-related qualifications but have a minimum of five years’ experience working in a risk-related discipline or working in a non-traditional risk role with some responsibility for risk management. Roles could include facilities management, finance, HR, human rights or procurement.

We normally assess you on your last 10 years’ experience and you need to provide the following:

  • A statement of professional competence to be completed on the form provided. Your statement needs to show how you meet a minimum of four technical competences and five leadership behaviours at managerial level, as set out in IIRSM's Risk Management and Leadership Competency Framework.

  • A copy of your CV, no more than two sides of A4, which should include your career/personal profile, work history, education and skills/achievements.

  • A reference on the form provided from either your manager or another suitably qualified person who can support your application.

CPD

Knowledge sharing and learning is a key component of what we offer and a reason for people joining IIRSM, so while we provide many opportunities to gain CPD through our webinars, events, insights and resources, and volunteering opportunities, we trust that by qualifying for membership and being an active member of our community, you are partaking in professional development. We therefore do not require you to track your CPD activity with IIRSM.

Member subscription fees

Different fees are payable depending on where you are geographically. You can pay your membership subscription for one, two or three years, with a discount for two and three-year payments.
