The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has called for every construction professional to “fully familiarise” themselves with the Phase 2 Report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and its recommendations.

It will work closely with members, of which IIRSM is one, as it develops an appropriate detailed response.

Sir Martin Moore Bick has made many recommendations for further action in the report, based on a careful analysis of the evidence presented by hundreds of witnesses and in hundreds of thousands of documents.

CIC Chief Executive Graham Watts OBE said: “It will take time to give the thought and consideration that the report requires and to develop a response that will address the various recommendations Sir Martin has brought forward. It is essential that the construction sector recognises the findings he has reported and that we learn the lessons and respond to create an industry and a culture where safety, competence and compliance with the law is an absolute priority. Only then will public trust in the sector be restored.”

Meanwhile, the Building Safety workstream of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) has published new guidance on the golden thread of information requirements for higher-risk buildings. This guidance will support dutyholders and accountable persons to deliver a golden thread for their building. This publication supports the huge amount of work happening across industry to deliver the higher-risk regime and to enable the delivery of robust information to support safer buildings. CIC had a strong hand in developing the guidance.
