Phillip Clarke

Proud to be an Environmental Health Officer, Phil is the Head of Health and Safety at one of the UK’s largest residential and nursing care home providers. With over 35 years’ experience in risk, Phil started his career in the British Army in the Intelligence Corps, re-trading after 12 years to the RAMC to develop as an EHO. After twenty years’ service, Phil moved to the civilian world where he had senior roles in the leisure, healthcare, and facilities management sectors before moving to care. Presently researching for his PhD thesis, Phil is a proponent of mixing academic and practitioner experience to be effective safety and risk professionals.
Phil believes that safety and risk practitioners are at their best when they work with operations to develop pragmatic solutions, take a multi-disciplinary approach, and that risk and safety approaches should be dynamic, resilient, add value, and integrate with the aims and values of the organisation.
As an IIRSM Ambassador Phil is looking forward to engaging with members and supporting and mentoring new entrants into the safety and risk profession.
