CPD

Our mission is to drive the holistic evolution of risk management in organisations, educating and protecting their people through our unique communities.

Part of how we do this is providing high-quality, formal and informal learning opportunities to support risk management professionals to develop their knowledge and skills.

Knowledge sharing and learning is a key component of what we offer and a reason for people joining IIRSM so, while we provide many opportunities for professional development through our webinars, events, resources and volunteering opportunities, we trust that by qualifying for membership and being an active member of our community, you are partaking in professional development.

Our members have risk-related qualifications and/or relevant risk management experience. We do not require you to track your continuing professional development (CPD) activities with IIRSM to be a member, but we encourage the development of your professional practice.

Training

Members can do this through training. Whether you’re working in a specific risk discipline, such as health and safety or environment, or you have responsibilities for managing a variety of risks in a project, team or across the organisation, our courses provide learning relevant for managing risks across industry sectors.

Our core training programmes include:

Managing Risk – The Essentials

Managing Health and Safety Risks – The Essentials

NEBOSH IIRSM Certificate in Managing Risk

Professional Development Webinars

Our members can also take part in our professional development webinars free of charge. Delivered by industry leaders, the sessions are aimed at helping you to improve your knowledge, influence and impact both personally and professionally.

Don’t forget, as a member, you can view recordings of all our webinars at any time on the Resource hub.

The series comprises:

Career support – focusing on all aspects of career development

Technical risk – in-depth consideration of a relevant risk management topic

Leadership behaviours – skills and attributes needed to be a successful leader, getting the best out of ourselves and others

Business competencies – how we work with others within and beyond our organisation effectively.

Branches

You can also get involved with our branches to raise your profile and learn from others.

In branches around the world we meet face-to-face and online in accessible environments to connect with people in similar professions, discuss experiences and learn new things about risk and safety. Keep updated with our upcoming branch meetings.

IIRSM’s mentoring scheme helps you be a mentor or mentee to develop your skills, grow your network and receive one-to-one support from a dedicated professional to enhance your career progression.

The IIRSM Risk Management and Leadership Framework defines the technical and business competencies as well as leadership behaviours needed to manage risk in today’s challenging climate.

It underpins IIRSM’s membership structure and can be used by individuals to identify their strengths and developmental areas and plan their CPD accordingly. IIRSM’s training has been mapped to the IIRSM Risk Management and Leadership Competence Framework.

IIRSM Fellows are required to send evidence and records of CPD as part of the application and renewal processes. For Fellows on a multi-year membership, we will also ask for confirmation that CPD is being maintained on an annual basis.

We are here to help keep your skills and knowledge up to date and help you develop in areas you want to improve through opportunities, tools and resources to embed professional development into your working day.
