You have at least a level 3 risk-related qualification and/or at least two years’ experience in managing risks, typically providing technical support, advice, and guidance to others across an organisation (or a client if a consultant) to support function and/or organisation-wide objectives and projects.
You can apply to be an Associate based on a. your qualifications, or b. your skills, competence and experience.
To apply via this route, you need to provide evidence of completing at least a level 3 academic or professional risk-related qualifications, recognised on the England and Wales Regulated Qualifications Framework or equivalent. Please note, we recognise both regulated and non-regulated qualifications.

With risk management experience
To apply you will have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a risk-related discipline, such as business continuity, compliance, crisis management, emergency planning, environmental management, insurance, occupational health and safety, quality management, project management, resilience, risk management, security or sustainability.
Working in a non-traditional risk role with some responsibility for risk management
To apply you will have a minimum of three years’ experience working in a non-traditional risk role with some responsibility for risk management or regularly practice it as part of your day job. Roles could include facilities management, finance, HR, human rights or procurement.
If you’re applying to be an Associate via the experience route, you’re required to:
complete a statement of professional competence as part of your application, demonstrating how your skills, competence and experience meet a minimum of three technical competences and three leadership behaviours at operational level, as set out in IIRSM’s Risk Management and Leadership Competence Framework.
you will also need a reference from your manager or suitable qualified person in support of your application.
